We have a school-wide reading program where we all strive to be Bookworms. A Bookworm loves to read books.
Bookworm of the Month: Students can be nominated by me or their teacher to be a Bookworm of the Month. To be nominated, a student should show that they love to read books or has shown great improvement in reading.
Bookworms receive: Recognition at our school-wide Morning Meetings Their picture taken and posted on our Bookworm bulletin board A custom-made bookmark by me, Ms. Adams, Head Bookworm and Library Media Specialist Other token items such as a pencil or bookmark
I encourage our students to read books daily at home. They can read the books independently or with a family member. Reading a book before bed is a great way to wind down and get ready for sleep.
We typically have 3 Book Fairs a year at school. They are a great time to come in and shop for books with your child and even get recommendations for books that are "Just Right" for them. I'm always happy to help children and parents to find books that are on their level and that they are interested in.
Besides getting books at school or buying them from the Book Fair, the public library is a wonderful resource as well. If your child's public library card has been misplaced, you can get a new one by visiting the nearest lfpl branch. The website for the public library is lfpl.org. One resource on their website is ebooks, which is an electronic book. All you need to access these books is an electronic device, Internet, and your pulic library card and password.
